I was in the baking isle and this very old man was looking up and down the shelves and then asked me "excuse me, I cant seem to find the custard powder - do you happen to know where it is?". I told him not off hand I didnt but to let me have a look and see if we can find it.In the search he told me that he prefers the power to make his custard as it cheaper and he cant afford to buy it all the time which is sad on its own. The inference of "I" made me think he was also widowed as well.
I was about 30 seconds in and had barely started and he turned to me and said " please, I have taken up to much of your time today, continue your shopping and Ill find a shop assistant to help". I said it was not problem and kept going to find the missing custard powder.
He thanked me so much and again appologised for taking up my time as I must be a busy person and all I could reply its a sad day if you cant give a minute of your time to help someone else out and his reply " if only more of the world would think like that".
Its true, we are all buzzing around like flies on our way to who knows where and like everyone else, I have a crazy crazy day ahead, but here I am talking about an elderly man and his search for the custard powder.
I am happy to say we found the powder so he will be having custard today and I hope a minute of my time that I gave him will restore his faith in the people of today.
Your time is free - and yours to give. Take the time to give a moment of your time to someone else today. Be it a minute in a grocery isle or a few seconds for a smile to someone you dont know. Just stop the busy bee and you never know what will happen.
Today I have learnt - that my life is a busy as I make it - but I am also in charge of it slowing down.
