The "Must Do" workshop if your a mum..................and $75 discount code as well.

I am one of those people that believe that in order to improve my photography, I have to be prepared to pay money and take a class that is going to help me improve in the direction that I see that I need more help in.

When I found this course run by Davina Fear aptly titled "Familiness Workshop" it definitely got my attention.  You see, I am not one of those super maternal mums that we see all over the place in pictures covered with flour while laughing over the making of cookies.  I (sadly) am one of the new age mums that work , run a house, look after a property and lot of animals while the husband is away with the Navy.

Those moments of being covered with flour on my nose are somewhere between the (currently) 4 full baskets of ironing, orders to pack and web pages to recode while deciding on dinner after the dog stole the meat off the bench adn chasing chickens around the yard after the pony ripped the wire of the chicken gate.  Sounds familiar huh?

So - I sat on the workshop for a few months and then like photographing your children thought each month that goes by is a month I am missing.  So signed up and have not regretted one minute of the 4 week course.

I can take a pretty decent photo so I did not sign up to improve my photography skills as such, but as we know there is more to photography than just knowing your way around the camera.  Composition, lighting, mood, attitude and having your "subject" so OVER you taking pics of them to mention a few.  Well this is the course that will well and truly get you on the way to understanding the subject so much better in any situation and how to create great memories of your family and also help you in abundance with paying clients.

Davina is amazing and so full of LIFE - trust me - there is nothing like a video from Davina to make you smile and brighten your day.  The lessons are in easy to watch videos broken into 3 so if you only have 10 min and not 30 that day you can easily watch what you need.  You also join a facebook group where Davina is in there daily and you can share your pics and get feedback along the way.  None of this "read the PDF - watch the video then pick one picture for CC at the end of the week".  If your struggling with something - she is there.

anyway, I could go on for hours but here is an example of what I ended up with.  It was a cold winter rainy day and I was happily sitting on the lounge reading a book and saw my

youngest doing the same.  So I grabbed the camera and enjoyed him.

Here is another pic that I never would have taken ( excuse the colors in this one - wrong WB setting :-) but its all about whats happening .

so.......if you want to add some story to your pics and want to work at your own pace over a 4 week class - then run - dont walk to sign up for the next class starting on July 28th so its not to late to sign up.

PLUS - we have a $75 discount code for this class only.  Use the code NWFPW75 taking the class down to $225. I guarantee you it will be the best investment in your photography and family that you will ever make.

until next time
happy snapping

Love Love Love - the "Love Project"....................

By now you would all be familiar with presets for Lightroom and actions for Photoshop and how they can improve your workflow and make you look much more super talented than you really are.  Some people use them, some dont but really they are the quickest way to improve your work flow.

I have found since discovering actions and presets that there are a lot of place selling them and they all look pretty much of a muchness with slight variances.  They seem to all be children, in meadow's, in long grass with sun flare behind them and on the softer side.  Dont get me wrong - I would be lost with out them and have my fav's but I guess if your style of photography is not the wispy dreamy type then where do you go?

BUT.........wouldn't it be great to find a bunch of actions that allow you to be a little different and a bit "out there" to make your images stand apart from the norm - a bit like this???

To diverse a bit......I do a lot of rescue photography of animals that are impounded or abandoned looking for homes and the pics I take get uploaded with thousands of others from around the country all competing for "your eye" to draw you in to look at adopting that animal.  So I try to make mine just that little different mainly in colour so that when people are scanning through their eye notices something different.

Back on track......  You can imagine my excitement when I came across this amazing Australian photographer that has just released her first set of actions for LR 3 & LR4 aptly called the "Love Project".

When I saw Julie's pics I fell in love and it was like I could say "I'm home" as the style is right up my alley and then some. Given the huge response since their release a week ago up a lot of other peoples alleys as well.

so - who is Julie Willis?  She is by far one of the most talented photographers that we have right here in our own back yard - check out her web site if you dont believe me.  She is a member of the AIPP and she offers workshops near her home close to Tweed Heads.  She is someone who took the bull by the horns and made up this amazing set of presets and has put them "out there" for everyone else to enjoy.  Oh - and she is a super nice person who actually wants to help you and they are few and far between!

The collection of 22 Presets for LR 3 & 4 will be $69.95 but as an introductory offer they are almost 50% off for $39.95 and can be bought from her at her "Love Project" page on her web site.

They are mainly designed for RAW but they work fine in JPEG and you just adjust the colours a bit to bring down the pop.  All presets no matter where they are from need adjusting and the sky is the limit.  Julie just give you the kick start to your own creativity.

so - pop over to her page and love project and support this amazing Australian and you wont regret one minute of it.  I promise.  You can also head over to her newly started facebook page just for the "Love Project" for tips and tricks on LR3, LR4 & LR5 or stop by her photography facebook page as well so you can see the presets in action.

oh - and just in case you dont think your "out there" yet - she has quiet a few "In there"....lol  The set covers everything from classic to Retro with B & W in between

Until next time - happy snapping

Thank you everyone for entering our competition and a big thanks to Kelly Moore bags for the bag that we have given away.  There were over 500 entires and as usual there can only be one winner.

So congratulations to

Fiona Brown

As luck would have it Fiona has been a long time fan of Camera Chick and is known by many of the regulars who will all no doubt be just as happy for her as I am.

To say she is super excited is an understatement and she is tossing up between Raspberry, Indigo, Mustard and the Grey.  Poor thing - I hope the job is not to hard on her.

We will have some more giveaways coming up with our lovely suppliers sending us stuff to give away including an awesome Fotostrap donated by Fotostrap,  a Shutter "Bug" or 2 plus another Camera bag which will be our very own best selling Molly bag.  Plus another Kelly Moore bag later in the year.

January 2013 Photo comp winner.....

Thanks for your patience everyone.  I am learning more and more about the program and have done much better this time.  last month I lost all the entries on the link and only had small thumbnails and people were still voting after it has all closed.

This time, I think I have cracked it!  phew.  All the images and their votes can be found at http://a.pgtb.me/clxDZ0

The major winner for Januarys photo comp as judged by Camera Dude is

Lucy Crafter and her image

Summer by the Sea, with goggles when needed!

My little sister always makes a habit of taking her goggles to the beach, but I have seen her use them once, otherwise they stay up here on her head as a very expensive headband!

Congratulations Lucy and your image will be in the the final draw in July to win a Camera bag.  You have also won a Camera Chick Necklace of your colour choice so email me at sales@camerachick.com.au with your choice and postal address

and for the voters choice was this amazing image by Tracey Joyce. I adore the lighting on this one and it was actually in the final group to win so well done.  You also win a necklace of your choice so please email me at sales@camerachick.com.au with your pick and postal address.

Thanks again everyone for entering and if you had no joy this time keep trying and keep entering as we love seeing people think outside the box!

Decembers 2012 photo comp winners.......

Firstly Merry Xmas and happy new year.  I had a bit of problem where I went to delete the voting ability on the photo comp on the 31st but accidentally took off all the pics!  another lesson learned - edit and change the dates - dont delete the widget.   Luckily all the images and votes are on the main program so all is good.  The images I downloaded are very very small - sorry - maybe the winners can email me the images to sales@camerachick.com.au ( new images uploaded)

Some brilliant images yet again and such a hard choice but there can only be one winner - okay 2 winners.

We have the viewers choice based on votes and that winner will receive a necklace of their choice and then we have the overall winer judged by Camera dude who will go into the yearly draw to win a camera bag and also wins a necklace as well.

So - with out further delay  the major winner for the month going into the yearly draw is

Dedrei Brummer

and the voters choice was

Toni Hill
with 12 votes at the time the voting closed

Looking forward to January's one
