The Winner of our May photo competition ( albeit in April)

Well no one can say he does not take his job serious - which is a good thing as I am leaving him here alone with my business for 3 weeks.

He really had a good look at each and every photo multiple times and also read the story behind them all and came to his choice.  He was tossing up between 3 of them and finally decided on the winner.

The Judge said that the spirt of the words with the photo is what he thinks made it a winner.  Here is what she wrote.

"I would like to enter this photo of my daughter, Sarah, who walked in her first Anzac day march with her school on Wednesday. She is wearing the miniature set of my Grandpa’s medals who was a navigator in WW2. He was sent to war right after marrying my Nanna, but then came home to pop out 5 kids (just as well as I wouldn’t be here!!).

When I took this photo of Sarah, she said “Wait, Mummy, I have to take off my hat and salute the soldiers who fought for our freedom”. Hence to say I was very proud that she had listened to her teacher and myself when she asked about the meaning of Anzac Day. From Melissa from

Just so you know that the judge was very qualified to judge this competition being a Navy veteran of 22 years.  This was taken last Anzac day before all my boys marched in the parade.

May's Photo comp........ The Spirit of Anzac - Entires close Sunday 30th April

I know - its not May - but given that I will be away pretty much all of May, then I am going to have to brings May's contest forward and what better subject than Anzac day coming up. So May's theme is

The Spirit of Anzac

Being a Military Family, Anzac day has real meaning for us - and you can take that as a hint that the Judge ( Camera Dude) is the one in the Military, so he will be looking for something that signifies Anzac Day.

I can be a batch of Anzac cookies, to a Digger and a silent moment of remembrance, to a game of two up.  What ever it is, get out there, enjoy the spirit and take a moment to remember those that have given their lives for us - and take a darn good shot

Entries will close on Sunday 29th April ( yep - its a quick one) at 5pm.

The winner of the Monthly contest will receive a Camera Chick necklace of their choice on a silver chain and will go in the big yearly draw so worth giving it a shot.

The entires will be judged by Camera Dude and his decision (only in this case mind you as we dont want him thinking he makes all the D's in the house) is final

The Winner of the "Spirit of Easter" photo comp.

Well how glad was I that I was not involved in the judging process.  We had an amazing 16 entires for our first ever photo comp and I would like to thank everyone who sent their photos in.  Its a scary thing to have your photos put up in front of everyone ( as I know by sitting through camera club judging each month having someone tear your work apart).

Camera Dude takes his responsibility very seriously and actually poured over the entires for quiet some time.  He was very torn between them all and came down to 2.



The final decision was made and the winner is................

Beth Fernley from Five Little Monkeys Photography.    

The judge said that having children on an Easter Egg hunt was what won the challenge for him and he loved the true spirit of one girl holding another back as he is the "Easter Bunny" at our place with our 2 boys and knows only to well how competitive they can be with easter eggs involved.

Congratulations Beth.  You are our first winner and will receive a beautiful necklace from Camera Chick of the colour of your choice.   But what Beth does not know is she will be one of the first ones to receive one of our new "Silver chain" necklaces with the same Charms on them.  She will also go into the draw for a major prize at the end of the year ( May 2013) where you get to decide which photo is the winner.

Now.....there is always a runner up and I have to say, camera Dude was very torn between which one to award first place to.  This one actually made him laugh and he said " you know - this is not the Spirit of Easter - this is the reality of Easter".  

 This image was taken by Haley Bradley and really deserves a special mention.

I think all of the photos are amazing - and am really happy to not be involved in the process.  Thank you everyone for your entires and as I am away for the month of May, I will be doing the next challenge next week.


In keeping with "The Spirit"  there can be no more fitting subject than what is happening next week.

New Monthly Photo contest.............April - The Spirit of Easter

Its something I have been wanting to do for a while as we have so many talented photographers on our page and I really enjoy seeing your work.

We will be running a monthly photo contest with a theme and to kick it off we have chosen "The Spirit of Easter".  This can be anything so get those creative juices running and upload the photo direct to our face book page ( also email a copy to sales@camerachick.com.au - see note 2). Entries close on the 20/4/12 at 12pm EST

The monthly winner will win a Camera Chick Necklace of their choice and then all the monthly winners will go into the draw to win something real big. Major draw will be in April 2013 and more details about that later.

The rules.....

1) The photo must be yours

2) upload the photo to our web page and tag Camera Chick in it.  I will just for this one get you to email me the photo as well to sales@camerachick.com.au so I can upload them to a folder.  With the new timeline I have to figure out how to file uploaded photo by others which I will get onto but lets double up this month  just to be sure.

4) You need to put a post here on our blog to say you have a photo entered so I can track it down ( darn timeline)

Well just to add some fun into the day I have set up an easter egg hunt.  But instead of forcing you to eat calories, I am rewarding you with Bling!  Interested? We are giving away 2 necklaces of your choice all for looking for eggs!
